Germanity Part 1: EDUCATION – German Yodeling School – Comedy by Loriot (English subtitles)
Germans are serious about everything. Especially as regards education. This does not stop in adult age. Constant self-improvement, intellectual challenge and the will for lifelong qualification are the basis of Germany’s effective and successful workforce. This one is an example of a class attending a Yodeling school. The final goal is to obtain the very popular Yodeling Diploma. This is worth a lot in Germany! You can start a successful career by being a professional yodelist. This is especially important for housewives, as shown by the interview after class. No it’s not. ‘Dödel’ could mean ‘dick’, or could refer also to a ‘dumb person’. But in this comedy piece it’s a phonetic element without deeper meaning. This is 70′s TV and there is certainly no references to ‘dick’ at that time.
The final end outside the school is missing.

JO der eigentliche Gag ist ja die total unemanzipatorische Art, obschon Emanzipation propagiert wird.. Die arme Frau “studiert” irgendson Quatsch, ihr wird volle Verantwortung beigemessen und von den Herren grundsätzlich übergangen, sowohl vom Lehrer, als auch vom Ehemann… Das is ja der eigentliche Gag an der Sache

Well, I lived for six years in the US, actually in Wisconsin, and sometimes you hear such amazing things about a German that you cannot get it, if it is a serious statement or not. So, according to media, many Americans believe that most Germans do “yodel” (and there ARE actually schools for yodeling because it IS an art) and are wearing leather pants. Anyway, if anyone would understand that it IS satire then I am reassured,

Ich mag Loriot, aber dieses Video ist verfehlt. Denn Es gibt tatsächlich solche Jodelschulen, und es kommt beim Lernen wirklich auf jede genaue Silbe an! Es ist bei jeder Musik so. Denn wie soll man sonst verläßlich gemeinsam musizieren? Auch die Berliner Philharmoniker müssen regelmäßig systematisch üben.
Übung macht den Meister.

I just asked myself, if most Americans really understand that this is satire, and should give ris to laughter not admiration, sometimes life can be so much funnier than fiction, and prejudices are very long-living, or is it just me?
